Trump’s 4th Of July Success

Despite a simple slip-up or two caused by a teleprompter glitch, by most accounts that matter, President Donald Trump’s “Salute to America” was a resounding success.

While the rain fell, with the Lincoln Memorial in the background and flanked on both sides by camouflaged Bradley fighting vehicles, President Trump used his July 4th Extravaganza speech to praise the men and women of the Armed Forces and to detail “American exceptionalism.”

Despite concerns from Democrats that he would use the Fourth of July event as a virtual campaign rally, Trump struck a largely nonpartisan tone during an address that paid tribute to the military by telling its history from the days of America’s founding – praising the spirit that “runs through the veins of every American patriot.”

“Today, we come together as one nation with this very special Salute to America,” a smiling Trump said. “We celebrate our history, our people, and the heroes who proudly defend our flag — the brave men and women of the United States military.”

From George Washington leading the Continental Army to the Apollo 11 moon landing, Trump rattled off a list of American accomplishments and inventions in the name of freedom, while slipping in a boast about his administration’s accomplishments.

“Americans love our freedom and no one will ever take it away from us,” Trump said to chants of “U-S-A.” “Our nation is stronger today than it ever was before, it is stronger now, stronger than ever.”

A History of Bravery and Valor

As Fox News reported, “the president took the audience, on this rainy day in Washington, through the history of the Armed Forces, telling tales of valor on foreign soil in gripping detail.”

“Together we are part of one of the greatest stories ever told — the story of America,” Trump said. “It is the epic tale of a great nation whose people have risked everything for what they know is right.”

“We’re Americans. Nothing is impossible,” Trump said.

Trump followed his speech with an individual honor to each branch of the U.S. military — Coast Guard, Navy, Army, Air Force and Marines.

Despite a driving rain at times, and generally overcast skies, Trump’s speech was punctuated by flyovers by military aircraft ranging from the Air Force’s F-22 Raptors and B-2 Stealth Bomber to the Navy’s F-18 Super Hornets and Army Apache helicopters.

“Today, just as it did 243 years ago, the future of American Freedom rests on the shoulders of men and women willing to defend it,” Trump said. “As long as we stay true to our cause — as long as we remember our great history — and as long as we never stop fighting for a better future—then there will be nothing that America cannot do.”

“We will never forget that we are Americans, and the future belongs to us,” he said. “We share one home, one heart and we are all made by one almighty God.”

Trump’s speech was capped off with a performance by the Navy Blue Angels flight team.

Trump’s 4th Celebration Not Without Some Controversy

While Trump’s speech set a unifying tone, the lead-up to the event was marked by controversy – with Trump’s opponents slamming him on everything from the cost of the event to the perceived exploitation of the holiday for a political purpose.

Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn., who is among the lawmakers overseeing the Interior Department, which has jurisdiction over the National Mall and federal parks, said it was “absolutely outrageous” that the administration will use park money to help defray Thursday’s event costs. The National Park Service plans to use nearly $2.5 million intended to help improve parks nationwide, The Washington Post reported late Tuesday, citing anonymous sources.

“These fees are not a slush fund for this administration to use at will,” McCollum said in a statement. She promised a congressional hearing.

Former high-ranking members of the Armed Forces also weighed on Trump’s celebration, with retired U.S. Army Gen. Barry McCaffrey – a frequent critic of the President – calling the “Salute to America” “narcissistic” and that it will set up “another vile political fight.”

Still, Trump defended the cost of the event, tweeting “there will be very little cost compared to what it is worth.”

“We own the planes, we have the pilots, the airport is right next door (Andrews), all we need is the fuel,” he said, referring to Maryland’s Joint Base Andrews, home for some of the planes that are to fly over the Mall on Thursday. “We own the tanks and all. Fireworks are donated by two of the greats.”

In his speech, President Trump also made it a point to heap praise upon the US Border Patrol and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, two agencies that have played leading roles in carrying out his tough immigration policies.

It was a beautiful speech on who we really are, Americans! Honoring our military on this day was the right thing to do as, through them, we still are a free nation! Thank you President Trump!

Trump is amazing. He outdid himself and everyone who was patriotic enough to watch this celebration knows he was very successful and his patriotism stood out. So proud of the President and I am looking forward to next years celebration and hope he can expand on it.

My wife & I former Canadians, sat thru the entire 4th of July event asking how can anyone criticize this
    truly patriotic presentation? The
protestors were lost among the many
    thousands of enthusiastic
celebrants ! The music was inspiring
    especially singing Hallelujah, as the
Blue Angels roared above in the sky!
We looked at each other & said we’re
    proud to be Americans!

I think it was a great tribute to our country, unifying and a great history lesson for those who do not know American history. President Trumps message was wonderful and up lifting. It is time for us to be proud of our country the men and women who protect it and most of all a President who loves loves us and our country.

  7. I thoroughly enjoyed our President’s delivery of his Salute to America! Tastefully done! Credit was given to those throughout history who had greatly contributed to America’s successes. Each branch of the Armed Services was honored with its appropriate song. played and sung beautifully by the Marine Corps Band. Flyovers were magnificent, with perfect timing!

Couldn’t have been more proud of our President! He did an outstanding job honoring America! May God bless him with continued good health!

  8. anyone who truely believes that Trump is a true patriot is either stupid or has no concept of the meaning of the word. In my humble opinion, Donald Trump wouldn’t make a pimple on the ass of most of our past Presidents. He is a moron and not even nearly capable of running this great country of ours. He inherited a recovering economy and has only succeeded in alienating most of our allies and pissing off the rest. It will take the next ten years to straighten out the mess he has made!

pea head of your ‘s you might be able to think..
And if you could think you would realize that Jimmy Carter held the title as the worst President this country has ever had until Barack Obama came along and took the title away from him. As worst presidents this country has ever had Oboma is. # 1, Carter is # 2. Slick Willie is. # 3
Slick Willie shook his finger in the nations face and said “I never had sex with that woman” until his semen on her dress proved him a liar. Then he gave N. K. nukes to threaten to distroy us with. Obama gave up 5 terrorists who distroyed the twin towers and killed 3000 of our people for a deserter who deserted his post and went over to the enemies side.
And “O” gave Iran Billions of dollars to develop nukes to distroy us with.
The economy was recovering? Why then we’re there so many more people on welfare because they were out of work? Why were companies leaving the United States to build their businesses? Why, if Obama was responsible for a recovering economy did he say bringing businesses back to the United States couldn’t be done? I’ll tell you why. Because he couldn’t or wouldn’t do it. PresidentTrump would, could and did bring them back and unemployment is the lowest it has been in decades. Did your so called great presidents do any of that in the eight (8) years they were in offices? NO.

I tried all day to find this event on TV and could not find it nor was it in the newspaper as to what time it would be and if it would be
on Television. I’m sure it was great but I missed it – not because I didn’t try!!

It is so disgusting the way the media tries to squelch anything our President does!!! As to the cost, my understanding is that President
Trump takes no salary from our government. Maybe he should and use the money for a wall and for events like the 4th of July one!!!!

I say “good Job, President Trump”!!!

Suggestion: Take your salary that I understand our government does not pay and use it to build the wall! Good Job, President Trump!!!

I’m curious to know how much money the democrats will spend convening the hearings to determine how much the President spent. That’s what’s outrageous!!!

I think the news media are a bunch of hate America jerks!!
